The difference between muting and banning a member

Whoever runs a group has two tools. They look alike but the results differ.

Muting

With Üyeler → Sustur… you choose 1 hour, 1 day or indefinitely. The muted member stays in the conversation, reads and reacts. They cannot write, attach files, invite or open a room. When the time ends everything reopens by itself.

Banning

Üyeler → Yasakla removes the member from the group and blocks rejoining through an invite link. Their messages stay. Yasaklılar → Yasağı kaldır reopens the door but does not restore membership; they return through an invite.

Which to choose

If a discussion heated up and pausing the person for a few hours is enough, mute. If the person should not be in the group, ban. Moderators and owners can only apply either to lower roles; only the group's owner assigns roles.
